John Cletheroe's
USA and Canada Holiday Hints

Shenandoah River and Shenandoah Valley, Virginia

The Shenandoah Valley runs north-south, with the Blue Ridge Mountains to its east and the Allegheny Mountains to its west. The valley therefore runs parallel to Shenandoah National Park and its Skyline Drive, with the valley being to the west of the park.

US340 between Front Royal and Waynesboro runs through the highly scenic Shenandoah Valley and is extremely highly recommended.

Cave tours are offered at Luray Caverns, near the town of Luray, on US340. This is a commercial attraction, not operated by the National Park Service.

Part of the George Washington National Forest lies to the west of the northern two-thirds of the highway.
