Delmarva and the Eastern Shore
Delmarva
Delmarva is an informal name given to the peninsula situated to the east of Chesapeake Bay.
The Delmarva name comes from parts of the names of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, the three states which have at least some of their territory making up the peninsula:
Delaware, Maryland and Virginia
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel connects the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula with the mainland, both ends lying in Virginia.
The Eastern Shore
Those parts of the Delmarva peninsula which lie in Virginia and Maryland are often collectively known as the Eastern Shore, but this name doesn't include Delaware. I'm very grateful to Wayne Pearson, who lives in Federalsburg, Maryland, right in the middle of the Delmarva peninsula, for this information.
