Colorado Plateau - Introduction

Location

The Colorado Plateau consists of the upland surrounding the Colorado River. It extends across: In other words the Colorado Plateau covers the same area as the Four Corners and the area to its north and west and to a much lesser extent to its south and east, or the northeastern and central parts of the Desert Southwest.

The Colorado Plateau is very approximately that area enclosed by the following. Start somewhat to the east of St George, Utah. Follow a line parallel to and east of I-15 northeast to east of Provo, Utah. Then follow a line eastwards somewhat to the north of US40 to the Rocky Mountains National Park, Colorado. Then follow a line southwest through Gunnison, Colorado and Pagosa Springs, Colorado and continue in the same direction through eastern New Mexico to join US60 around the point where it crosses the New Mexico/Arizona state line. Then follow a line west-northwest along the Mogollon Rim to just south of Flagstaff, Arizona. Then follow I-40 west to its junction with US93. Finally follow a line north back to east of St George, Utah. I should stress that this is only an approximation and not intended to be a precise definition.

Description

The Colorado Plateau is a largely arid and sparsely populated region.

It includes a huge number of spectacularly beautiful landscapes, canyons, mountains, other rock formations and other places of interest.
