Coast Ranges of North America

The various Coast Ranges extend, with some gaps in between, along most of the west coast of North America from southern Alaska to Baja California.

The Coast Ranges include the Kenai, Chugach and Saint Elias Mountains of Alaska and the Yukon, the Vancouver Island Ranges, the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, the Olympic Mountains of Washington State, the Coast Ranges and Klamath Mountains of Washington State and Oregon, the Diablo, Santa Lucia, San Rafael, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, San Jacinto and Santa Monica mountains of California, and finally the Peninsula Ranges of Baja California.

Except in the south, the Coast Ranges typically have heavy rainfalls since they are the first to catch the rainclouds rolling in from the Pacific Ocean.
