John Cletheroe's
USA and Canada Holiday Hints

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Location

Gatlinburg is in eastern Tennessee, immediately north of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, at the point where US321 from the east and US441 from the south (the Newfound Gap Road) join to form US321/441 heading north.

Description

Gatlinburg is very much a tourist town for the Smokies, with numerous hotels, motels and restaurants to suit all budgets.

Gatlinburg's main street has a number of tourist attractions (of varying quality, it must be said) and numerous shops. A stroll along the main street is recommended, perhaps in the evening after exploring the National Park. Gatlinburg is one of the few places in America where it is possible to take such a stroll, because here all the shops stay open in the evening and they are next door to each other within easy walking distance with no intervening parking lots.

A trolley service, with a nominal charge, operates over a number of routes in and around Gatlinburg and this excellent facility provides a very convenient method of travel without the problem of car parking.
