Utah State Highway 12
Location
This road runs from US89 south of Panguitch, east through Red Canyon and past Bryce Canyon National Park, through parts of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, bending north to meet Utah State Highway 24 at Torrey, just west of Capitol Reef National Park.
Description
Apart from the fact that this road passes through some remarkable scenery, a particular feature is the most refreshing variety of that scenery.
Red Canyon, near the road's western terminus, has some incredible thin, tall, red sandstone columns known as hoodoos. East of Bryce Canyon the road descends into open, more arid country. North of Boulder the road rises again and passes through the Dixie National Forest's more lush vegetation before terminating at Torrey.
The road passes through several pleasant small towns such as Escalante.
