Texas State Highway 118 Between Kent, Fort Davis, Alpine And Big Bend National Park

Description

From I-10 at Kent, Texas State Highway 118 runs south and climbs over the Davis Mountains, passing the McDonald Observatory, to Fort Davis. This section of the road is highly scenic. Although the road reaches a fair altitude and has quite a number of bends, traffic is very light and driving is easy.

From Fort Davis to Alpine the road is still pleasant but not so spectacular.

Tx 118 forms a slower but much more interesting alternative to US90 between Van Horn and Alpine.

South of Alpine, Tx 118 is a good fast mainly flat and straight road, with scenic views which become even more impressive as you approach the entrance to Big Bend National Park.
