North Shore of Lake Superior, Minnesota

Roads around the entire shore of Lake Superior have been designated as the Lake Superior Circle Tour. This road system isn't administered by the US National Park Service or Parks Canada. In many places the roads run some considerable distance from the shore, and views of the lake are relatively rare throughout.

One of the most scenic sections of the Lake Superior Circle Tour is Minnesota State Highway 61 along the north shore of the lake in Minnesota. Between Duluth and Two Harbours you have a choice of roads: the faster inland road or the slower highly scenic road along the lake shore. North of Twin Harbours views of the lake are slightly less frequent.
