Kancamagus Highway and the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire; Franconia Notch, New Hampshire

The scenic Kancamagus Highway, a section of New Hampshire State Highway 112, runs from Center Conway to North Woodstock, just south of Franconia Notch. The highway passes through the White Mountain National Forest.

Franconia Notch itself is worth a look, but it is largely spoilt by the two highways which pass through it.

There are various places to see, including The Basin, and the site of The Old Man Of The Mountains, the natural rock formation which resembled the profile of a man's head and which features on New Hampshire's state highway marker and licence plate. The Old Man Of The Mountains collapsed on the night of 2/3-May-03 due to erosion.
