Gunflint Trail (County Road 12) Through The Superior National Forest, Minnesota

Location

Starting at the small town of Grand Marais on Lake Superior, the Gunflint Trail, Minnesota Secondary Road 12, heads northwest away from the Lake Superior shore into the backcountry of the Superior National Forest to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

Description

The Gunflint Trail passes through the Superior National Forest and runs by numerous scenic lakes. There are a number of lakeside resorts with accommodation and boats for rent, accessed by short side roads from the Gunflint Trail. The country has some hills but no mountains.

The Gunflint Trail is a normal, paved, toll-free road which is fully open to the public.
