Colorado State Highway 65 from US50 at Delta to I-70/US6 over Grand Mesa and through Grand Mesa National Forest - The Grand Mesa Byway

Location

From the small town of Delta (between Montrose and Grand Junction on US50) Colorado State Highway 65 runs initially northeast, then turns north and finally northwest to join I-70/US6.

Description

This road is a slower but much more scenic option than the main road (US50/I-70/US6).

Heading north, it initially passes through a fruit growing area before climbing over Grand Mesa, where it runs through the Grand Mesa National Forest, before descending to join I-70/US6 which runs through the arid Colorado River valley.

The road is good quality and paved over its whole length.

There is a National Forest visitor centre on this road but unfortunately it is only open on certain days of the week.
