Beartooth Highway, Custer National Forest and Shoshone National Forest, Montana and Wyoming

Location and Description

The Beartooth Highway, that part of US212 which forms the northeastern entrance to Yellowstone National Park, is an extremely spectacular high mountain road with wonderful views. Photograph (36KB).

The summit of Bear Tooth Pass reaches 10947 feet.

There is no toll charge for using the Beartooth Highway but there is a charge for entering Yellowstone National Park.

The Beartooth Highway is normally closed from mid-October to late May.

The road passes through the Custer and Shoshone National Forests.
