Safety Considerations for a US/Canadian Holiday - Introduction

Although this section lists some areas of concern, I feel that safety is largely a question of common sense and general awareness. The USA and Canada are probably two of the safest countries in the world for visitors.

Look around you and be aware of safety issues, especially in unfamiliar situations such as wilderness areas, and especially if you have children in your party. However, don't be so obsessed with the subject of safety that it spoils your holiday. The risks are really very low.

In general, be sure to comply with any safety instructions or notices issued by authorities or the emergency services, etc.
