Safety Considerations for a US/Canadian Holiday - Floods

The flood plains of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers are liable to flooding after prolonged periods of heavy rain.

Long sections of these rivers are enclosed by levees (artificial dykes). Should a levee fail then the flood danger would be considerable. However, there is likely to be plenty of warning before such an event.
