Fast Food Restaurants in the USA and Canada - Wendy's Past And Present
This is NOT the official Wendy's web site.
Apart from the introduction of additional product lines, Wendy's have made a number of other changes over the years:
- The employees no longer have to dress up as little Wendy's, a fact which no doubt comes as a great relief especially to the men who used to look particularly silly.
- Wendy's old-time newspaper advertisement table top design has now largely disappeared, a development which I for one find most regrettable. If anyone has a computer image of the old table top then I'd greatly appreciate a copy (purely for personal nostalgia), which you can send using the "EMail me" link at the bottom of this page.
- While most Wendy's locations maintain their traditional single queue system with orders being relayed by intercom, a small number of newer locations now use the multiple queue system employed by most of the other fast food chains.
- Sadly, Wendy's seem to be rapidly phasing out their excellent serve yourself salad bars and in Apr-01 we didn't see any. This is presumably due to their high labour costs and wastage. Wendy's continue to offer a good range of high quality pre-prepared salads, however, together with various stuffed pitas.
- In Canada, Wendy's has merged with the Tim Horton coffee shop chain. Several new locations feature both chains in the same building with side-by-side serving counters.
