This steel arch bridge carries US19 over the New River near Fayetteville, north of Beckley. The bridge was completed in 1977 and has an incredible span of 1700 feet.
According to a news item on BBC Ceefax on 28-Jul-03, the New River Bridge previously held the record for the world's largest steel arch but this has now been exceeded by the 550m (1800 feet) arch of the recently opened 2.4 mile long Lupu Bridge across the Huanpu River in Shanghai, China.
