St Lawrence River, New York State, Ontario and Province of Québec
New York State
A few good views of the St Lawrence River can be obtained from New York State Highways 12 and 37.
Ontario
Numerous very scenic views of the St Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands can be obtained from Ontario Highway 2, which parallels Highway 401. Highway 401 is a freeway, some distance from the river. Highway 2 forms a quieter, perhaps slightly slower but considerably more scenic alternative, running mostly very close to the river. The two roads merge just before the Province of Québec border.
Province of Québec
Ontario Highway 401 changes to Province of Québec Highway 20 at the border. Shortly you approach the outskirts of Montréal and traffic levels become extremely intense. We have not explored any further east.
Bridges
Since the St Lawrence is a wide river that takes large ships, the bridges over it are high and majestic.
