USA and Canada Holiday Hints |
From the parking lot take the well marked trail, but be sure to continue over the footbridge which crosses a small ravine, on to the various scenic viewpoints. The little river which the footbridge crosses on the way to these viewpoints is not the actual canyon - the real thing further along the trail is far more impressive.
When we visited Ouimet Canyon a few years ago there was no entrance fee. However I recently (Apr-98) received an EMail from Marvin Broughton who lives in the town of Dorion, very close to the Canyon. Marvin informs me that there is now a non-profit group called "Friends of The Canyon" who found it necessary to charge two Dollars per vehicle in 1997 to defray expenses for upkeep and improvement. Marvin points out that the fee may change for 1998.
