John Cletheroe's
USA and Canada Holiday Hints |
A clearly signposted road leads up from the main road a mile or so to the park. There is a small but convenient free parking lot near the park.
One the other side of the road lies the unique Lake On The Mountain, with its surface very nearly the same height as the road. To have two bodies of water of such different surface levels so close to each other is fascinating and intriguing. The Lake On The Mountain is extremely deep, and some notices explain what is known about its geology and how it was formed. The lake has another mystery: it has no apparent source. It is thought that it is fed by an underground stream.
There is a short walkway around part of the lake.
This park will only take a short time to explore, but it is well worth a quick visit.
There is no entrance fee.
