Marietta, Ohio

Location

Marietta is on the north (Ohio) bank of the Ohio River in eastern Ohio, where I-77 crosses the river. Ohio State Highway 7 runs alongside the river.

Description

Marietta is a pleasant medium sized town with an excellent range of facilities, mainly grouped near the Interstate exit.

There are numerous power stations and heavy industrial plants alongside the Ohio River at East Liverpool and south of it, ruining what must once have been a very scenic area. The industrialisation gradually reduces as you head further south, and once Ohio State Highway 7 reaches the Wayne National Forest it becomes very pleasant. Running south from East Liverpool on Ohio State Highway 7, Marietta is the first town that we could recommend for an overnight stop.
