Exploitation Of Natural Resources
Under the Bush administration a number of significant commercial projects have been approved in or close to publicly owned land which exploit natural resources and have a serious detrimental environmental impact.

Significant reductions in funding for the US National Park Service under the Bush administration are leading to increasing concerns over the lack of maintenance and the withdrawal of services such as public education programmes in many parks.

The following changes in visibility on the haziest days in various US national parks and national monuments were recorded between 1990 and 1999:
Significantly worse:

- Bandalier National Monument, New Mexico
- Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
- Chiricahua National Monument, Arizona
- Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
- Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
- Great Basin National Park, Nevada
- Lassen Volcanic National Park, California
- Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona
- Tonto National Monument, Arizona
- Yosemite National Park, California
No change:
- Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina and Tennessee
Improved:
- Acadia National Park, Maine
- Badlands National Park, South Dakota
- Canyonlands National Park, Utah
- Denali National Park, Alaska
- Glacier National Park, Montana
- Grand Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado
- Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky
- Mount Rainier National Park, Washington State
- Pinnacles National Monument, California
- Point Reyes National Seashore, California
- Redwood National Park, California
- Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
- Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
- Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
In some parks in the eastern USA visibility has reduced from 100 miles before industrialisation to 24 miles.
The Bush administration has recently approved the construction of new power plants near Mammoth Cave and Yellowstone national parks.
Mobile Phone Use In Parks
Many visitors to parks are objecting to the small number of selfish people who use mobile phones (or in US English: cellular phones) for other than emergency purposes.
In some parks mobile phone masts have been erected so as to form visible eyesores.
Sep-04: Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Colorado
In September 2004, Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Colorado, was re-designated as Great Sand Dunes National Park.
Sep-04: Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument, Washington State
In September 2004 there were several minor earthquakes and minor eruptions at Mount St Helens, which might be warnings of a forthcoming major eruption.
