Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona - North Rim

Location

See the Grand Canyon - General page.

What to See and Do

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon forms the Kaibab Plateau. The elevation above sea level of the North Rim ranges from around 8000 feet to about 9000 feet, making it about 1200 feet higher in elevation than the South Rim. The Colorado River lies about a mile below the rim.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is less accessible and therefore less crowded than the South Rim. There is much less commercial activity on the North Rim and many people therefore prefer it to the South Rim.

Winter Access

The North Rim is completely closed in winter months due to snow, usually from early November to the first week of May.
