John Cletheroe's
USA and Canada Holiday Hints

Banff National Park, Alberta

Location

Along the southern part of the main range of the Canadian Rockies, just east of the British Columbia/Alberta border.

Size

2,564 square miles. For comparison, the English county of Devon has an area of 2,588 square miles.

What to See and Do

The entire area of the park is extremely scenic.

Lake Louise and nearby Moraine Lake are most definitely worth a visit.

The spectacular Icefields Parkway runs between Lake Louise and Jasper.

Peyto Lake, although located in Banff National Park, is described on the Icefields Parkway page since it is accessed from that road.

Entrance Fee

In the summer of 2000 the entrance fee for normal cars was $10 per day. This gives entrance for the vehicles' driver and all passengers and covers up to 4pm on the following day. This one entrance fee gives access to Banff, Kootenay, Jasper and Yoho National Parks within the time period. There is a $2 reduction for senior citizens. For a more extended period a very much more expensive pass is available.
