White Sands National Monument, New Mexico
Location
South central New Mexico, on US70 southwest of Alamogordo.
Size
225 square miles. For comparison, the size of the Isle of Man is 221 square miles.
What to See and Do
Drive around the quite extensive dunes of extremely fine white gypsum sand. You can also hike various trails through the dunes, but this is very strenuous especially in the intense heat of summer.
