Montezuma Castle National Monument, Arizona

Location

Just off I-17, south of Flagstaff.

Description

The Anasazi ruin of Montezuma Castle National Monument is well worth a visit. The ruin is located in a recess half way up a cliff, so you can only view it from below. From the Visitor Centre there is a short trail with signs explaining details of what is known about the people who built the cliff dwelling.

It is perhaps worth mentioning that it does tend to get extremely hot in this area during the summer, so it's a good idea to wear a hat while walking the trail and put up a windscreen sunshade for the car.
