Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Black Hills, South Dakota

Location

Mount Rushmore National Memorial in the Black Hills of western South Dakota, near the town of Keystone.

What to See and Do

The monument consists of the enormous statues of four US presidents - George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt ad Abraham Lincoln - carved from the side of the mountain.

The monument is impressive and well worth a visit. The faces are some fifty to seventy feet high.

You view the monument from a point well below it and some distance away. Therefore a zoom lens is required in order to obtain a good photograph.

There are exhibits detailing the life story of Gutzen Borglum, the monument's designer, and explaining how the monument was constructed.
