Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Arizona and Nevada

Location

Lake Mead National Recreation Area consists of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave and their shorelines. Lake Mead is the artificial lake created by the construction of the Hoover Dam. Lake Mohave is the artificial lake created by the construction of the Davis Dam near Bullhead City, some fifty miles or so south of the Hoover Dam. Both dams lie on the Colorado River; both dams lie on the Arizona/Nevada state line.

The northern (Nevada) shoreline of Lake Mead can be accessed by taking Lake Mead Boulevard (I-15 exit 45) east from Las Vegas. This changes into Nevada State Highway 147 once you clear town. Then take Nevada State Highway 167 to head towards Valley of Fire State Park.

Description

The main attraction of Lake Mead NRA is for boaters. However, it is well worth taking the route along the northern shoreline of Lake Mead if you are visiting Valley of Fire State Park and have the time.

Entrance Fee

There is no charge for driving along the roads described on this page.
