John Cletheroe's
USA and Canada Holiday Hints

Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico

Location

Lincoln National Forest is comprised of several separate sections, all in the Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico - a southern range of the Rocky Mountains.

Description

From Alamogordo, New Mexico, US82 heads east, enters the Lincoln National Forest and climbs rapidly up to the touristy little town of Cloudcroft. From Cloudcroft New Mexico State Highway 244 heads north through some extremely pleasant ranching/farming country similar to that in many parts of Colorado. Being short of time, we took US70 west back to Alamogordo, but it seems very likely that New Mexico State Highways 48 and 37, north of US70, are also scenic.
