Motel Chains in the USA and Canada - Motel Vouchers Pre-purchased in the UK
Most fly/drive packages sold in the UK offer the option of pre-purchasing vouchers for motel accommodation in the USA and/or Canada.
You don't have to purchase any motel vouchers at all as part of a fly/drive package. You can just purchase the flight and the car rental alone. Purchasing the car rental in with the flight as part of a fly/drive package is almost always much less expensive than buying it separately, either in advance in the UK or in the USA or Canada.
However, for visitors to the USA or Canada from the UK we don't advise purchasing motel vouchers as part of a fly/drive package, for these reasons:
- Firstly, vouchers are only offered for the more expensive motel chains. Much less expensive options, including independent motels, Motel 6 and Super 8 are available.
- Secondly, having vouchers limits your freedom to choose accommodation as you desire. In a small town this may be a very serious disadvantage.
- Thirdly, at most locations you have to pay an additional amount directly to the motel as well as use a voucher. This increases the cost considerably above what is already a high level.
