Motel Chains in the USA and Canada - Average Rates For Some Chains

This information appeared in the travel section of the L.A. Times in late December 1997 or early January 1998. Rates have of course increased since then.

Remember that with most motel chains rates vary considerably between locations and at different times of the year.

These are average nightly rates for one single person.

The additional charge for each additional adult staying in the same room (usually up to four persons in total) is usually fairly low, of the order of $4-$10 or so per person. Most chains do not charge for children staying in the same room with a parent, although the age limit above which a charge is incurred may be as young as twelve.

Most rooms in chain motels have one double bed, two single beds or two double beds.

Chain Average Rate
Budget Host $31
Comfort Inn $45 to $75
Cross Country Inns Similar to other budget chains

Most budget hotels give ten per cent discounts to AAA members or senior citizens, or members of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
