If you last visited a Motel 6 many years ago, you may not be aware of how they have changed:

| No 800 number, no central reservations | There is now an 800 number for central reservations: 1-800-4-MOTEL6 (1-800-466-8356) |
| Black and white television optional with a charge | All locations now have colour televisions in all rooms, with no extra charge |
| Same rate at all locations throughout the year | Rates now vary considerably between locations and also over the year |
| Shower but no bath | An increasing number of locations now have rooms with baths |
| One side of each bed up against a wall | Most renovated properties now have rooms with space on both sides of the beds |
| Small wall shelf, no desk | Renovated properties now have rooms with desks |
| No coffee in the office in the morning | All locations now provide free coffee in the office in the morning |
| Traditional door locks | Almost all locations now have electronic door locks. Those locations which still use traditional door locks no longer indicate room numbers on key fobs. |
| No web site | Web site (external link verified Feb-04) |
| No locations in Canada | There are now a small number of Motel 6 locations in Canada, listed in the directory |
