Grand Marais, Minnesota
Location
Grand Marais on the northernmost part of Minnesota's Lake Superior shoreline, not far from the Canadian border.
Description
Grand Marais is probably the best little town along the northern part of the US section of the north shore of Lake Superior. It has a reasonable range of accommodation, but the choice of restaurants is somewhat limited.
Grand Marais' harbour is scenic.
Grand Marais is the starting point of the interesting Gunflint Trail.
There are towns called Grand Marais in Minnesota, Michigan and Manitoba. I believe the name means "Grand Harbour", although my French/English dictionary translates "marais" as meaning marsh or bog.
