As well as the sites listed here, many state, province, region, city and town tourist publicity web sites include useful maps, together with many of the sites of restaurant chains and motel chains.
On road maps, the same designs as on highway marker shields are used to indicate Interstates and US Highways. However, State Highways are usually indicated by a circle or oval containing the road number, and county roads by a rectangle containing the road number.

This site has plenty of useful information. However, when I visited in May 1999 poor menu design made it extremely difficult to reach its excellent maps section from its home page - instead, try starting at the Lake Louise page from which you can follow links to the various National Parks pages, each of which has a link to a map. Most of the maps are in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. Verified May-99.

Online maps of the USA and Canada (and Britain). Maps can panned and zoomed in to give extremely high levels of detail. In my opinion MapBlast's online maps are slightly superior to MapQuest's. Verified Mar-03.

This web site has a wealth of information. The "National Maps" page offers some useful national maps of the entire Canadian national park system and some sections of the site also offer maps of individual parks. In English and French. Both URL's lead to the same content. Both URL's verified Feb-04.
This airport guide site has diagrams of the facilities available in each terminal of many US and Canadian airports, but when I visited it in Oct-97 did not have road maps of the areas around each airport, a feature which would make the site very considerably more useful. Verified Oct-97.
This site has details of Rand McNally's products, together with current construction (road works) information and weather. US state road maps in Adobe Acrobat PDF format are also available for downloading in the World Maps > Download Maps section. While very useful, these maps do not include small towns or minor highways. The same page of the site also offers several other interesting World and North America maps. Verified Dec-00.
This official site includes menu details and a "nearest restaurant" locator with addresses plus road and street maps. Use the official two letter state abbreviations when searching. Verified Feb-04. Many other restaurant chain sites now have a similar facility.
From the National Park Service home page, select the Info Zone option, then the Park Maps option and then the desired park or other area from the lengthy dropdown list. Maps are available for most of the US National Park Service areas (national parks, national monuments, national recreational areas, etc) in JPG and Adobe Acrobat PDF format. In most cases separate maps of both the park itself and the surrounding region are available. These are high quality digital images, not scanned from printed documents. Because of the high quality and level of detail, file sizes tend to be fairly large. This is by far the best source of maps of NPS areas that I have so far found and is a wonderful resource for potential visitors. Verified Feb-04.
This page offers a number of very useful national maps of the entire US national park system, mainly in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Some individual sections of the NPS web site include maps of each park, as does the University of Texas Map Collection site. Verified Dec-00.
The maps available on this site are mainly scanned images of the maps found in the various US National Park Service leaflets; they are extremely useful but tend to be large files and therefore they take a long time to download. Verified Jul-02.
