This company develops and publishes a variety of educational simulation programs (available for purchase) designed to teach various aspects of engineering, including the design of bridges, dams and towers. Their web site also has information on various bridge truss designs complete with photographs of real-life examples. Verified May-99.
A description of some of the major civil engineering structures in each American state. An excellent idea but so far poorly executed, sadly. The site does not have very many entries and it was exceedingly slow when I visited it. Verified Mar-01.
This German site is a good source of information about civil engineering structures such as bridges. It includes an English language option. Verified Jan-01.
Bridges
A downloadable bridge construction simulation game. The three bridge construction problems set by the program have to be solved within budget. The solutions involve creating somewhat unrealistic composite bridges, and figuring out exactly how to place the bridge elements is most of the problem, but this program is still worthwhile. Hint: be sure to try rotating bridge elements. Verified Dec-98.
A wealth of information on the past, present and future of the various bridges in the San Francisco Bay area, including their dimensions, years of construction, costs of construction, current toll rates, design type, etc. Verified Nov-02.
Verified Feb-00.
This site has a good, simple, effective design. It includes photos, details of tolls and details of the new parallel bridge-tunnel currently being constructed. Verified Aug-98.

A wealth of information on the past, present and future of the various bridges in the San Francisco Bay area, including their dimensions, years of construction, costs of construction, current toll rates, design type, etc. Verified Nov-02.
A downloadable bridge construction simulation program, in which you have to design a truss bridge capable of taking the greatest possible load. Verified Dec-98.
This is a text only university dissertation describing the history and design of the bridge. I found it extremely interesting. Verified Aug-98.
Full details, including photographs, of the famous bridge in Washington State which collapsed due to resonance, and its replacement. Verified Nov-02.
