Mountain Home, Idaho

Location

The town of Mountain Home is on I-84, at its junction with US20 and Idaho State Highway 51, in southwestern Idaho, about forty miles southeast of Boise.

Description

Mountain Home is a pleasant medium-sized town. There is the usual cluster of gas stations, motels and fast food restaurants at the central I-84 exit, plus a number of less expensive motels in the centre of the town.

Mountain Home is a good choice for a lunchtime or overnight stop. In my opinion it is a far better option than the highly unpleasant congestion and industrialisation of Boise. The town of Ontario, on I-84 just over the Oregon border, would probably be another good choice.

Despite its name, Mountain Home is not in the mountains but on the Snake River Plain, a region which often gets extremely hot in summer.
