Staten Island Ferry, New York City, New York State

The Staten Island Ferry runs between the town of St George at the northeastern tip of Staten Island and the southern tip of Manhattan. The trip provides excellent views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Manhattan.

According to a comment in the Sunday Times travel supplement on 7-Apr-02, this ferry is now free of charge.

As far as I know this is strictly a passenger ferry.
