USA and Canada Holiday Hints |
You'll find the same combination of low prices, high quality, excellent service and incredible convenience in the rest of the USA and Canada as in Florida. Almost all of the motel and restaurant chains that are found in Florida also operate throughout most of the USA and many of them also operate in Canada.
Compared with many other parts of both the USA and Canada, Florida is somewhat lacking in respect of spectacular scenery, with only the Everglades and the Keys as obvious examples. However, parts of Florida are certainly pleasant enough without being spectacular. William Perinis, who describes himself as a fourth generation Floridian, emailed me to point out that Florida has many beautiful rivers, thousands of lakes, a great variety of flora and numerous glorious beaches.
On the other hand, the mountainous parts of the USA and Canada have numerous examples of magnificent and spectacular scenery, as does the west with its huge open landscapes.
You won't find Florida's high concentration of theme parks and other tourist attractions in most other parts of the USA and Canada, so if you have children, teenagers or young people in your party who want these then venturing outside Florida would need some careful thought so as to be sure to accommodate their holiday requirements.
The further north you go or the higher in altitude you go, the cooler it gets, both in summer and winter. In summer the hours of daylight increase a little as you get further north. In general terms, the further west you go the drier it gets, until you reach the Sierra Nevada or Cascade Mountains.
For anyone contemplating a first look at the rest of the USA and Canada, one idea would be to take a three week fly/drive holiday combining Florida with the Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The relatively uninteresting trip through southern Georgia will be well worth it.
