FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions For Visitors To The USA And Canada - Some other questions
Are there still real cowboys?
Yes, in parts of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana there certainly are still real cowboys and you may well be lucky enough to see some.
Can I see real Indians?
Yes, on Indian Reservations throughout the USA and also to some extent in Canada. The largest reservation is the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona. Remember that these are real people living their lives, not performing for the benefit of tourists. Displays such as dances by Indians are often performed in tourist areas and these might well be a better way to see Indians.
Where does the real West begin?
Where the pickup trucks all have dogs in the back.
Where is the real America?
- Where you pump gas before paying for it.
- Where the motel rooms all have traditional locks and keys, not electronic locks.
- Where the locals leave their cars parked with the keys in the ignition. (Not something I would ever recommend a visitor to risk doing.)
- Where somebody trying to use a mobile phone (a cell phone) is looked upon as a freak, and where they wouldn't get a signal anyway.
Are most US and Canadian freight trains incredibly lengthy?
Yes.
In the South, do they really say things like "You-all come back!" (meaning "Goodbye")?
Yes, frequently.
Do people in the USA really say "Have a good day" and "You're welcome"?
Yes, very frequently, and in most cases they mean it.
