Driving In The USA And Canada - Seat Belts

The information on this page, although extensively checked and believed to be correct, is completely unofficial and is provided for general guidance purposes only.

Almost all American states insist that drivers and front seat passengers should always wear seat belts. (I'm informed that Maine and New Hampshire are exceptions to this rule.)

It makes every sense for rear seat passengers to wear seat belts at all times as well, and in most American states this is compulsory.

I am also informed that in all Canadian provinces and territories all vehicle occupants (in front and back seats) must wear seat belts at all times.

Failure to wear a seatbelt may well invalidate any insurance policy should an injury occur.
