Brief Mentions Of Some Other Significant Dams In The USA And Canada

This list is in addition to the dams which merit individual pages.
American Falls Dam
On the Snake River in southern Idaho. Originally constructed 1925 - 1927; replacement constructed 1976 - 1978. 105 feet high, 5277 feet long at the top.
Davis Dam
On the Colorado River, downstream and 67 miles south of the Hoover Dam, on the California-Arizona border. Constructed 1942 - 1950.
Flaming Gorge Dam
On the Green River in northeastern Utah, 43 miles from Vernal. Created Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Concrete arch dam. Originally constructed 1958 - 1964; modified in 1978 and 1984. 502 feet high, 1180 feet long at top. 131 feet thick at base, 27 feet thick at top. About 27 million cubic feet of concrete.
Jackson Lake Dam
On the Snake River in the Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming. A concrete gravity dam with embankment wings. Constructed 1910 - 1911. 65 feet high, 4920 feet long at the top.
Minidoka Dam
On the Snake River in southern Idaho. Created Lake Walcott. Constructed 1904 - 1906. Height 86 feet, length at top 4475 feet.
Navajo Dam
On the San Juan River in northwestern New Mexico. Constructed 1958 - 1963. Height 402 feet, length at top 3648 feet.
Palisades Dam
On the South Fork of the Snake River in southeastern Idaho. 270 feet high, 2100 feet long at the top. Constructed 1951 - 1957. Created the Palisades Reservoir.
Shasta Dam
On the Sacramento River in northern California, twelve miles northwest of Redding. 602 feet high, 3460 feet long at the top. 543 feet thick at the base, 30 feet thick at the top. Created Shasta Lake. Constructed 1938 - 1945; modified 1995 - 1996. There are good views of Shasta Lake from I-5 north of Redding.
