Durango, Colorado

Location

Durango is in southwestern Colorado, at the junction of US160 and US550.

Derivation Of Name

According to one source the name Durango comes from the Basque word "urango", which means water town.

Description

Durango is a fairly large and busy town, rather larger than Cortez. It has plenty of facilities for tourists who visit the area.

A visit to the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot near the southern end of Main Street is highly recommended, especially if you can see a train depart or arrive.

A stroll along Main Street near the railroad depot is also interesting.

You can park inexpensively for a couple of hours at the parking meters on the narrow one-way road which runs adjacent to the railroad track on the opposite side of both the road and the railroad to McDonald's.
