John Cletheroe's
USA and Canada Holiday Hints

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Location

Colorado Springs is south of Denver. Like Denver, it lies on the western edge of Great Plains, just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.

Description

While Colorado Springs is a much larger town than we prefer to stay in, it does have a number of places of interest and tourist attractions nearby. Links to some of these can be found in the "In The Area" section of this page while some others are described here.

Signposts to Colorado Springs often abbreviate the name to "Colo Spgs".

Manitou Incline Railway

This cable-drawn incline railway had its lower terminus in the town of Manitou Springs, within a few yards of the lower terminus of the Pikes Peak Cog Railroad. Randy Berndt EMailed me to say that sadly it went out of business some years ago.

US Air Force Academy

The US Air Force Academy is located on the northern outskirts of Colorado Springs. Its grounds are open to the public, as is the very impressive chapel building.
