Cañon City, Colorado

Pronunciation

Since the first "n" in Cañon City's name has a tilde (~) over it, the name should be pronounced "Canyon City".

Location

Cañon City is in central Colorado, on US50 west of Pueblo, southwest of Colorado Springs.

Description

Cañon City is a pleasant small town with a fair range of facilities.

Near to the town is Skyline Drive, a one-way road which runs for a couple of miles or so along an extremely narrow high ridge. In several places the ridge is only as wide as the road, with drops on both sides. The road is paved and quite safe provided you drive slowly and weather conditions are fine; it is a worthwhile experience. There is no toll for using this road.
