If you will be visiting both the USA and Canada from Britain and have a choice of whether to fly into an American or Canadian city then the cost of the car rental rather than the air fare may be a deciding factor in making that decision.

Whether you purchase the car rental in advance in Britain or in the USA or Canada, it is usually considerably less expensive to pick the car up and drop it off in the USA rather than Canada.

Another vital factor is the difficulty in obtaining unlimited mileage car rental for Canada, whereas when purchased in advance in Britain this can be readily obtained for the USA.

Car rental is considerably less expensive in some regions of the USA than others.
