Car Rental in the USA and Canada - Child/Infant Seat Rental Charge

It is legal requirement in both the USA and Canada that children under five years old must use special infant seats in all cars (rented or otherwise).

These infant seats can be rented from car rental companies, for which they make a charge of typically $4 to $5 per seat per day (as at Dec-98). There is also usually a refundable deposit, typically $50. One company quotes a rate of CDN$5 per day per infant seat in Canada (early 2000).

There may be an additional surcharge of $15 to $25 for the hire of an infant seat with a one-way rental (where you return the car a different location to that where you picked it up).

If you will require one or more infant seats then be sure to reserve them when booking the car rental.
