Atlantic Provinces

Inside Passage

The Inside Passage is the name given to the 950 mile long shipping route which runs from Seattle in Washington State to Skagway in Alaska. The Inside Passage runs between the mainland and the various offshore islands, including Vancouver Island, the islands providing shelter from the Pacific Ocean.

Other major ports on the route of the Inside Passage include Vancouver (British Columbia), Prince Rupert (British Columbia), Ketchikan (Alaska) and Juneau (Alaska).

Maritime Provinces

The Maritime Provinces of Canada, often simply referred to as "The Maritimes" are as follows:

Prairie Provinces

Canada's Prairie Provinces, famous for their wheat production, are: The USA's "Prairie State" is Illinois.

Québec

To avoid ambiguity it is best to clearly distinguish between Québec City and the Province of Québec.

Ungava

Ungava is the northernmost part of the peninsula which lies to the east of Hudson Bay in Canada, comprising most of the northern part of the Province of Québec and part of western Labrador.

The word Ungava comes from the Inuit (Eskimo) term for "toward the open water".
