Humboldt Redwoods State Park and The Avenue of the Giants, California

Location

Humboldt Redwoods State Park is located in northwestern California, on US101 south of Eureka.

The Avenue of the Giants parallels US101 between the towns of Myers Flat and Phillipsville. The northern part of the Avenue of Giants runs through the southern part of Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

Description

US101 through Humboldt State Park passes through the giant coastal redwood trees.

The Avenue of the Giants is a relatively narrow and therefore slower and more peaceful road than US101. The tall trees close to either side of the road tower over vehicles on the Avenue of the Giants, creating the feeling of being totally closed in by the forest. It is highly recommended. It is a paved road. There are several connecting roads between the Avenue of the Giants and US101.

There is a huge statue of Paul Bunyon and his ox Babe in this area, possibly alongside the Avenue of the Giants.

Entrance Fee

There is no toll or entrance fee for driving on US101 or the Avenue of the Giants.
