USA and Canada Holiday Hints

Colorado Desert, California

Despite its name the Colorado Desert is not in the state of Colorado, but in extreme southern California and northwestern Mexico. The name is in fact derived from the desert's proximity to the Colorado River. The Colorado Desert is to the south of the Mojave Desert.

The Colorado Desert lies within the Sonoran Desert but as far as I know it lacks the giant Saguaro cacti seen further east in southern Arizona. The Colorado Desert does however have many other examples of cacti and other exotic vegetation for the visitor to see.

Two areas of considerable interest in the Colorado Desert are Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and Joshua Tree National Park.
