The United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) - Introduction
This is NOT the official Bureau of Land Management web site
The United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM), part of the Department of the Interior, is responsible for the administration of vast tracts of public land mostly in western states and Alaska. This amounts to some 425,000 square miles, or about 11.7% of the total area of the USA.
Public land is defined as being land owned by the federal government, other than the National Parks and other National Park Service areas, the National Forests, the National Wildlife Refuges and a few other areas.
The BLM also administers some other areas and facilities open to the public, including those listed in the links in this section.
