Scenic Railway Journeys in the Canadian Rockies

There are various scenic railway journeys available in the Canadian Rockies, including the following routes:

Banff - Kamloops - Vancouver

This is the line which runs through the famous Spiral Tunnels, Kicking Horse Pass - photograph (111KB), Rogers Pass and the Fraser Canyon. The Spiral Tunnels, Kicking Horse Pass and Rogers Pass are between Banff and Kamloops; Fraser Canyon is between Kamloops and Vancouver.

A tourist passenger service over this route is operated by Rocky Mountaineer Railtours (external link checked Jan-98).

Jasper - Kamloops - Vancouver

A tourist passenger service is operated over this route by Rocky Mountaineer Railtours (external link checked Jan-98).

Jasper - Prince George

A normal passenger service is operated over this route by VIA Rail (external link checked Jan-98).

Prince George - Whistler - Vancouver

A normal passenger service is operated by BC Rail (external link checked Jan-98).

I believe that there may also be a tourist steam train passenger service available between Whistler and Vancouver.

Comment Regarding Banff - Jasper

There is no direct passenger train service between Banff and Jasper, but the spectacularly scenic Icefields Parkway motor road connects these two towns. Alternatively it is possible to travel by rail via Kamloops.
